Mexico Travel Explorer (“we,” “us,” or “our”) — operated by Christian Uriel Vázquez Gómez, an individual based in Mexico City, Mexico — runs mexicotravelexplorer.com (the “Site”). This policy explains what information we collect, why, and how you can control it, including the rights available to you under Mexico’s Federal Law on Protection of Personal Data Held by Private Parties (Ley Federal de Protección de Datos Personales en Posesión de los Particulares).
Information We Collect
Newsletter signup. If you sign up for our Trip Starter Guide or newsletter, we collect the email address you provide, along with:
- The date and time you subscribed
- The page or section where you signed up (e.g. homepage, footer)
- The advertising campaign that referred you, if any
- Your browser’s language setting
- Your subscription status (subscribed or unsubscribed)
We do not require an account or password to use the Site, and we do not collect payment information anywhere on the Site.
Site usage. We use Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the Site (for example, when a search is run, a page is shared, or a booking link is clicked). Google Analytics sets two cookies on your device (_ga and _ga_CH06P31WR5) that last up to 400 days and let it tell repeat visits apart. We do not use this data to identify you personally.
Advertising. We may advertise the Site with Google Ads. If you arrive by clicking one of our ads, Google may set cookies such as _gcl_aw and _gcl_au (lasting up to 90 days) so it can tell us whether the visit led to an action on the Site, such as following a booking link. Google may also use your visit to show you ads for the Site later, on Google and other websites. You can manage how Google personalizes ads for you in Google’s My Ad Center.
Affiliate links. Some links on the Site, such as “Book Now” buttons for hotels and “Tours & Tickets” buttons for tours, are affiliate links. If you follow one and make a booking, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. When you click one, the partner’s own site (for example, GetYourGuide or Tablet Hotels) may set cookies to credit the booking to us; those cookies are governed by that partner’s privacy policy, not ours.
GetYourGuide analytics. Pages on the Site load a script from GetYourGuide that reports which GetYourGuide links appear on a page and whether they are clicked, along with the page’s address. To do this, it stores identifiers in your browser: a session_id cookie and a gyg_visitor_id entry that are deleted when you close your browser, and a partner_id entry that stays until you clear your browser’s site data. GetYourGuide may also set its own visitor_id cookie, which lasts up to 400 days. We use this only to see how our GetYourGuide links perform. It does not tell us who you are.
Infrastructure logs. The Site is served through Cloudflare, which automatically logs standard request metadata (such as IP address and requested page) for security and reliability purposes, in line with Cloudflare’s own privacy practices. We do not access this data to identify individual visitors.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information above to:
- Send you the Trip Starter Guide and related emails you signed up for
- Operate a welcome email sequence introducing Mexico Travel Explorer
- Understand which pages and features are useful to visitors
- Maintain the security and performance of the Site
- Measure how our affiliate links perform
- Measure how our ads perform and show our ads to people who have visited the Site
We do not sell your personal information.
Legal Bases (EU, EEA and UK Visitors)
If you are in the European Union, the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) or the UK GDPR applies to how we handle your information. We rely on these legal bases:
- Newsletter: your consent, given when you sign up. You can withdraw it at any time with the unsubscribe link in any email.
- Google Analytics, Google Ads and GetYourGuide analytics: your consent. A banner asks for it before these tools load, and they stay off unless you accept. You can change your choice at any time with the “Cookie settings” button at the bottom of every page.
- Hosting and security logs: our legitimate interest in keeping the Site secure and working.
- Replying to messages you send us: our legitimate interest in answering your question.
How Long We Keep Information
- Newsletter: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. After you unsubscribe, we keep a record of that so you are not emailed again.
- Google Analytics: the cookies on your device last up to 400 days. Google deletes the usage data linked to them after the retention period set in our account, which is no longer than 14 months.
- Google Ads: the cookies on your device last up to 90 days.
- GetYourGuide analytics: as described under “GetYourGuide analytics” above.
- Messages you send us: as long as needed to answer them.
- Infrastructure logs: kept by Cloudflare under its own retention practices.
Third-Party Services
We rely on the following third parties to operate the Site and deliver the newsletter:
- Mailchimp (The Rocket Science Group LLC, a US-based company) — sends the Trip Starter Guide, welcome sequence, and any future newsletter emails, and manages your subscription and unsubscribe status.
- Google Firebase / Google Cloud — stores a record of your subscription (email and the details listed above) securely.
- Cloudflare — hosts the Site and serves its pages.
- Google Tag Manager — used to load site-analytics and advertising tooling; see “Site usage” and “Advertising” above.
- Google Ads — used if we advertise the Site, and to measure how those ads perform; see “Advertising” above.
- GetYourGuide — tour booking partner; provides the analytics script and tracks bookings made through our “Tours & Tickets” links. See “Affiliate links” and “GetYourGuide analytics” above.
- CJ (Commission Junction) / Tablet Hotels — hotel booking partner; tracks bookings made through our “Book Now” links using cookies. You can block or delete these cookies at any time through your browser settings; see CJ’s privacy notice for details.
Each of these providers processes data under their own privacy policies, which we encourage you to review. They are based in, or process data in, the United States or the European Union — by using the Site, you understand your information may be transferred to and processed outside of Mexico. We only work with providers that maintain their own privacy and security commitments for the data they process on our behalf.
Transfers from the EU, EEA and UK. We are based in Mexico and our providers process data in the United States, countries that the EU and UK may not consider to offer the same level of data protection. Where our providers transfer personal data out of the EU, EEA or UK, they rely on safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework.
