Art, Archaeology, Architecture

Built from dark volcanic stone on the rugged landscape of southern Mexico City, Museo Anahuacalli immerses you in Diego Rivera’s fascination with the art and cultures of pre-Hispanic Mexico. Conceived by Rivera with architect Juan O’Gorman, the monumental building draws inspiration from ancient Mesoamerican architecture and houses thousands of archaeological objects from Rivera’s personal collection. If archaeology, pre-Hispanic cultures, or Mesoamerican art capture your interest, its shadowed galleries offer a closer look at objects created by civilizations across ancient Mexico. As you move upward through geometric passageways and mosaic-covered spaces, the building becomes part of the experience, eventually opening onto terraces overlooking the gardens and volcanic Pedregal landscape.
