Architecture

In Mexico City’s Buenavista neighborhood, Biblioteca Vasconcelos is a striking example of contemporary architecture, distinguished by its monumental interior and intricate arrangement of suspended bookshelves. Designed by architect Alberto Kalach, the vast steel, concrete, and glass structure unfolds across multiple levels, where elevated walkways and soaring shelves create an extraordinary sense of depth and scale. Suspended within the central hall, Gabriel Orozco’s Mátrix Móvil, a sculptural installation featuring a gray whale skeleton, adds an artistic dimension to the space. Surrounded by botanical gardens, the library brings together literature, art, and architecture in an environment shaped by natural light and greenery.
